THE REVOLUTION GATHERS SPEED
Pluto is the astrological planet which rules power, control, transformation and elimination, often associated in astrology with dramatic upheaval and major changes.
The turmoil Pluto brings into our lives is more gradual than it appears, however, with these ‘sudden’ transformations actually tracing their roots back through the years.
Having been retrograde for some time, Pluto turns direct in Capricorn on October 8th, 2022.
Pluto turns retrograde for approximately five months every year, on a regular cycle. This means that, as seen from earth, the planet appears to be traveling backwards through the sky. It isn’t – no planet ever goes backwards in its orbit – this is just an optical illusion.
Nevertheless, the symbolism of the apparent backwards motion is very important in astrology, and it changes the way the planet shows up in our lives.
In astrology, when Pluto is retrograde, we’re given a regular breathing space during which we can take stock of how the transformation is progressing.
During a Pluto retrograde period, we also get the chance to make some voluntary changes, typically involving letting go or something or someone, before we’re forced into it.
Now that Pluto’s retrograde motion has ended and the planet has turned direct once more, this breathing space comes to an end. For many, the effect of this is that it may feel as though events are spiraling out of control.
Certainly, we’ll feel less in control of our own personal circumstances, and it may feel as though change is being forced upon us.
Because Pluto is currently transiting Capricorn, the major changes it is making concern the very structures around which our society is based – law and order, justice, government, rules and regulations.
On a more personal level, Pluto’s cosmic influence, now that it turns direct today, is about re-shaping the structure of our individual lives, perhaps by shifting methods of working or changing the way we schedule our activities.
All of this can seem very unsettling or even unfair; it’s only with hindsight that we can appreciate Pluto’s work – this planet never tears down anything which it doesn’t then replace with something better.
Now that Pluto has turned direct, it’s time to practice acceptance of what is going on around us. The more we fight the inevitable changes which are coming, the more painful the journey will be.
